OCD

Do you want to be free from OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by recurring and intrusive thoughts, images, or impulses (obsessions) that cause distress and lead to repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions can significantly interfere with a person’s daily life, relationships, and overall well-being.  Compulsions can include excessive hand washing,  fear of contamination, checking behaviours such as locks and appliances, counting and arranging items in a specific order.  Any relief from the compulsive action is short lived before the OCD cycle starts again. OCD can be exhausting and debilitating, causing feelings of guilt frustration and shame.

Solution- Focused Hypnotherapy for OCD

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on identifying and working towards specific goals. I work with my clients to define clear, achievable goals related to managing OCD symptoms and improving their overall well-being. By shifting the focus towards solutions rather than dwelling on problems, individuals with OCD can gain a sense of empowerment and motivation.

Hypnotherapy techniques are used to induce a relaxed state, which can help reduce anxiety and stress associated with OCD symptoms. By achieving a deep state of relaxation, individuals experience relief from anxiety and gain greater control over their thoughts and behaviours.

Cognitive reframing and visualisation also help individuals with OCD reframe their thought patterns and develop more adaptive responses to their obsessive thoughts. Through guided visualization, individuals can imagine themselves responding differently to triggers and adopting healthier thought patterns. This process aims to rewire the brain’s response to obsessions and reduce the need for compulsive behaviours.

I can help clients to build resilience by focusing on their strengths and positive resources. I also encourage my clients to recognise and amplify their existing coping skills, strengths, and successes in managing OCD symptoms. This approach can enhance self-confidence and self-efficacy, which are vital for overcoming OCD-related challenges.
